An unplanned Easter Sunday in Port Saplaya!
I signed up to go on a trip but it was cancelled and I didn't get the memo. Needless to say, I was up early with nothing to do. I probably could have gone back home and crawled back into bed but remembered I had never been to Port Saplaya. Google maps said it was about 20 mins (this was a lie) on the bike so I decided to check it out. I ended up riding the city bike through dirt roads and fields wondering where in the world I was headed. It is times like these when I have no idea where I am and I just start laughing hysterically. I can't explain it but I don't feel lost, I'm just genuinely so happy to be exploring. When I finally reached Port Saplaya Beach I was relieved to get off that bike but also amazed by how beautiful it was. It was early morning so no one was on the beach and it was so peaceful. I walked along the beach and had a Little Mermaid Moment on the rocks! Dreams come true everyday if you just try lol. Port Saplaya is known for its harbor and beautiful buildings and called the Little Venice of Valencia. I walked around the harbor, took plenty of pictures and then ended at a restaurant to enjoy a glass (or three) of delicious vino tino (red wine) and a view. Also, it is EASTER SUNDAY and HE IS RISEN. I found a palm leaf and made a cross. I get crafty from my mama. When I asked for the check and the waiter came back with my change he was shaking so bad. Poor guy looked like he was about to have a heart attack. I even asked if he was okay, legit concerned for this guy's health. I left and went to put my change in my purse and realized he had slipped his number. Awe so cute. Shoot your shot.

Girls just wanna have fun!
Tonight, I joined Roxana and a few of her girlfriends to a cabaret show at Teatro Olympia. I love the arts and this show was spectacular. Some things you can't un-see. Wearing earrings from my Tia Margie. Roxana loved them so much, maybe something similar will be in her new jewelry collection. Leather jacket from my Tia Esther. Wearing this thing EVERYDAY! Top from Hollister and was a gift from my brother, Lucas. ....I AM LOVED. City on Fire.
Last year during Fallas I lost my phone. NOT AGAIN. My favorite part of Fallas is the light shows in Ruzafa and the 2 o'clock Mascleta. Thanks to my friend Emi for the balcony views. Mira, mi sobrina española! The most beautiful Fallera in all of Valencia. I dolled her up with mascara and lipstick. That's what tias are for. Madrid for the weekend!
My friend Darlene from university was planning a trip to Barcelona and Madrid and sent me a message through Instagram to see if I had any recommendations. We hadn't kept in touch but glad she reached out. I offered to meet her in Madrid and invited her to finish her trip in Valencia during Fallas! I took her to my favorite places in Madrid. We took a boat ride in Retiro Park and that was quite the adventure! Homegirl can't paddle! I took over and we only bumped a few boats (not my fault lol). It was all fun and games until it started pouring down rain and we were on the opposite of the pond. WE GOT SOAKED! There was nowhere to take cover and as you can see from the picture, my umbrella was useless. We went to see Madrid's Royal Palace and walked through a few parks. Drinks at Mercado de San Miguel. Dinner at Restaurante Sobrino de Botin, founded in 1725, is the oldest restaurant continuously operating in the world, according to the Guinness Book of Records. We had a pitcher of Sangria. Ordered the pig. Sang along with the live band. I told them it was her birthday so we got cake and chupitos. Not bad for a night in Madrid. We woke up (definitely feeling all the sangria from last night) and had breakfast at San Gines Chocolateria. More sights then Circulo de Las Bellas Artes for lunch, drinks and views. Back to Valencia, she is coming with me! GO COOGS! In Spain, we drink wine before noon.
Spent the day in Requena! Wineries, Wine Museums, and Wine festivals. Sipping on delicious Vicente Gandia wine at Hoya de Cadenas. The Winery: Century-old winery founded in Valencia in 1885 and now managed by the 4th generation of the Gandia Art on a Barrel: The Art Barrel Museum houses the collection of casks decorated by renowned artists from Valencia. The Wine Cellar: Located on the vineyards, the underground cask cellar today holds 15,000 selected oak casks |
