After the hike in Calpe I went to Benidorm for lunch and to see the Mediterranean Balcony.
This landmark was once used as a defense against pirates! The wind was crazy and the waves crashing on the rocks below were breathtaking!

Today's hike is up the Penyal d'Ifac in Calpe, Alicante!
The Penyal d'Ifac has two routes. I recommend doing the easy one first then finish the hike at the top of the calcareous rock for amazing views! Sunscreen, water, good shoes and a snack are major requirements. I also wore my HandUp Global Goods necklace, a gift from my brother. Definitely one of those places you wish you could bring everyone to share how special it is! It was a tough hike but I started and ended it with a smile and that counts! Afterwards, I found my way to the beach for a strawberry mango ice cream. Hope to do this hike again soon! An unplanned Easter Sunday in Port Saplaya!
I signed up to go on a trip but it was cancelled and I didn't get the memo. Needless to say, I was up early with nothing to do. I probably could have gone back home and crawled back into bed but remembered I had never been to Port Saplaya. Google maps said it was about 20 mins (this was a lie) on the bike so I decided to check it out. I ended up riding the city bike through dirt roads and fields wondering where in the world I was headed. It is times like these when I have no idea where I am and I just start laughing hysterically. I can't explain it but I don't feel lost, I'm just genuinely so happy to be exploring. When I finally reached Port Saplaya Beach I was relieved to get off that bike but also amazed by how beautiful it was. It was early morning so no one was on the beach and it was so peaceful. I walked along the beach and had a Little Mermaid Moment on the rocks! Dreams come true everyday if you just try lol. Port Saplaya is known for its harbor and beautiful buildings and called the Little Venice of Valencia. I walked around the harbor, took plenty of pictures and then ended at a restaurant to enjoy a glass (or three) of delicious vino tino (red wine) and a view. Also, it is EASTER SUNDAY and HE IS RISEN. I found a palm leaf and made a cross. I get crafty from my mama. When I asked for the check and the waiter came back with my change he was shaking so bad. Poor guy looked like he was about to have a heart attack. I even asked if he was okay, legit concerned for this guy's health. I left and went to put my change in my purse and realized he had slipped his number. Awe so cute. Shoot your shot. Madrid for the weekend!
My friend Darlene from university was planning a trip to Barcelona and Madrid and sent me a message through Instagram to see if I had any recommendations. We hadn't kept in touch but glad she reached out. I offered to meet her in Madrid and invited her to finish her trip in Valencia during Fallas! I took her to my favorite places in Madrid. We took a boat ride in Retiro Park and that was quite the adventure! Homegirl can't paddle! I took over and we only bumped a few boats (not my fault lol). It was all fun and games until it started pouring down rain and we were on the opposite of the pond. WE GOT SOAKED! There was nowhere to take cover and as you can see from the picture, my umbrella was useless. We went to see Madrid's Royal Palace and walked through a few parks. Drinks at Mercado de San Miguel. Dinner at Restaurante Sobrino de Botin, founded in 1725, is the oldest restaurant continuously operating in the world, according to the Guinness Book of Records. We had a pitcher of Sangria. Ordered the pig. Sang along with the live band. I told them it was her birthday so we got cake and chupitos. Not bad for a night in Madrid. We woke up (definitely feeling all the sangria from last night) and had breakfast at San Gines Chocolateria. More sights then Circulo de Las Bellas Artes for lunch, drinks and views. Back to Valencia, she is coming with me! GO COOGS! Rome, Italy for the weekend.
Special Guest: Tia Margie and Tia Esther! These crazy girls were doing a tour of Italy in the winter and I am so glad I got to meet them in Rome! I was 16 the first time I went to Rome with my family and here I was 10 years later with my tias. We had a great time and they cracked me up! My Tia Esther is from South Texas and this European cold weather was not her friend. Tried keeping her warm with a few Limoncellos. She bought me this super cool black leather jacket and I can't wait to wear it! My Tia Margie at it again and traveling the world. It is so good to get her hugs once again. Must be Amore! Back to Valencia! |
